  Jay is currently assisting with several research projects under the supervision of Dr. Sechrest, Dr. Bichler and Dr. Worrall. These include the Community University Partnership Survey (CUPS), the Riverside County Youth Accountability Board (YAB) and Youth Accountability Team (YAT) evaluation projects, the San Bernardino County District Attorney Community Needs Assessment Survey and the Herman Goldstein Problem Oriented Policing Award evaluation. Jay is a graduate student with the Department of Criminal Justice, CSUSB. His primary area of interest is in evaluating the efficacy of domestic violence prevention programs and arrest and prosecution decision-making policies and procedures. His other areas of interest include single parenting and fatherhood issues. Jay has worked for the Municipal and Superior Courts in California and Colorado and is a practitioner as well as a student of criminal justice.

    Community University Partnership Survey (CUPS).
Intern
This survey was developed to help St. George Church identify the immigration needs of their Parish community. The information collected will be used to develop workshops designed to assist community members with their immigration needs and problems.
    Youth Accountability Board (YAB) Riverside County
Research Assistant
An evaluation project of the Riverside County Youth Accountability Board that provides first-time youthful offenders with an alternative to the formal court system. Project includes data collection, management, and analysis of juvenile delinquent movement patterns in an attempt to forecast future criminal activity.

    Youth Accountability Team (YAT) Riverside County
Research Assistant
An examination of delinquent youth movement patterns that attempts to forecast future criminal activity based on those patterns. Project includes field data collection, data cleaning and analysis, generating maps to view movement patterns or pathways, and report writing.

    Police Action Counseling Team (PACT) Project-Riverside County
An examination of a multi-agency program that dispatches a counseling team to domestic violence and other traumatic police calls for service where minors are present. Field data collection included the use of global positioning systems (GPS) and site assessments to measure spatial distances to services as a variable of program success or failure. Project also included data cleaning, analysis, and report writing.

    Problem Identification Project (PIP) an Evaluation of the Herman Goldstein Award for Excellence in Problem-Oriented Policing
The Goldstein Awards recognize innovative and effective POP projects that have achieved measurable success in resolving a specific problem faced by police and the community. The focus of the evaluation is to determine if the quality of the submissions has suffered in recent years due to a reduction in funding for POP programs by the federal government.

    Community Needs Assessment Survey (DA Survey) San Bernardino County District Attorney
Research Assistant
An analysis of the needs assessment survey administered by the San Bernardino County District Attorneys office to residents of a section the downtown area of the city known as the DMV neighborhood. The analysis identified specific problems in the area reported by residents.
