Christie has been working, under the direction of Drs. Bichler and Sechrest, on the evaluation of a demonstration project funded by the California Board of Correction's Mentally Ill Offender Crime Reduction Grant (MIOCRG). The project, entitled PASSAGES, provides dually diagnosed offenders (having both mental illness and substance abuse disorders) with a minimum 90 day in-custody treatment program and an individualized, highly structured aftercare program upon their release. Previously, Christie worked closely with Dr. Bichler to conduct a process evaluation of the SPAN program. Christie’s other research interests include prevention of juvenile delinquency through early family intervention. Her focus is from a developmental perspective that acknowledges how inadequate parenting contributes to the emotional and social dysfunction of an individual. Christie is working on an Interdisciplinary M.A. degree combining Psychology and Criminal Justice. Upon completion of her degree she will pursue a doctorate in juvenile delinquency and crime prevention.
